Summer Heat Inspiration

Sorry for the lack of updates! I have been busy picking up extra shifts at work and the heat has been killing all my inspiration! We had one of the hottest days in history about a week ago and I have been living in cut offs and t-shirts. I saw these two lovely photos on The Sartorialist and it has inspired me to get out of this heat funk and try to remember what joy clothes can bring! I'm off to my cousins wedding this weekend as well as apartment hunting and relaxing in the country, so photos will be in abundance and I will try hard to look as great as those lovely ladies!

Antropologie & Yestadt Millinery

I have fallen in love with every hat available on Anthropologie right now! I am especially loving the ones by Yestadt Millinery like the ones above! Such creative and beautifully crafted hats! Now if only I had $400 lying around.

Don't You Know Who I Am?

I was looking around on Fashion Gone Rouge and found the editorial "Don't You Know Who I Am" by Robert Trachtenberg for Tatler Magazine August 2011. I found it such a refreshing and creative concept! I love the idea of using the record and the magazine as the girls faces and just found the styling to be spot on, matching perfectly with each chosen celebrity. I especially love the "twiggy" picture and am loving everything mod and, of course, Prada for fall!

Home County Folk Festival

Eric and I both worked Friday and Saturday evenings. It was unfortunate because a few of our favourite artists were playing at London Ontario's Home County Folk Festival! We couldn't see Sarah Harmer, Basia Bulat, or Hawksley Workman. We did however have today off so we spent the afternoon there! We even got to see a bit of Sarah Harmer as she was asked to join Dan Mangan; it was a fantastic show! The booths there were also amazing and one stood out in particular. It was the jewelry of Daniel Pollak all hand crafted by him and unbelievably gorgeous! He does not have a website, but he will be at the One of a Kind show in Toronto this November. I bought a giraffe brooch and just love it! I wore a vintage crochet top, vintage bag, Ellen Tracy maxi skirt, Aldo sandals, and Roots aviators.

Hats part II

After seeing Emily's photographs of her mothers hat collection I asked if she would be willing to take some pictures of my own collection. My collection started a couple of years ago. I bought a couple hats here and there not thinking anything of it, and one day I was at my local goodwill and someone had just donated their entire hat collection. I bought three of these hats, a green one with black ribbon, a royal blue one with a big silk navy bow, and a brown cloche hat. Funny enough, Emily was the first person I saw after buying these hats and I ran up to her and said "I have decided I am now a hat person", and thus my collection began. Below is about half of my collection, I will post pictures of the rest of my hats another day. All photos are courtesy of Emily.Jane Photography.

We also headed over to the shop Lovesick where she took some beautiful shots! I will share those an another day!

Yes Please.

I am currently obsessed with these mid calf boots made by The Cobra Society. I am anxiously awaiting the launch of their online store. Affording them may be a problem, but a girl can dream!

Is it a dress?

Eric and I went to a local pub for dinner tonight and stopped along a trail to take some pictures. I am wearing a vintage romper, hat, and clutch.

I had a pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries

Eric had a chicken caesar wrap and poutine

Sunfest just finished and I bought these two beautiful rings there! I forgot to bring my camera though so unfortunately no pictures of the event! Silly me.

70's Inspiration for Fall

Roberto Cavalli, Chloe, and Gucci Fall 2011 RTW (photos from style.com)

As soon as the hottest days hit I am thinking about fall. I know I should really be enjoying the lovely weather, but I have never done well in extreme heat and I am so in love with fall fashion that when it is only a couple months away it becomes unbearable. As I have mentioned before I am loving polka dots for fall but I am also glad to see that the 70's inspiration from this spring is continuing. Cavalli, Chloe, and Gucci are just three of my favourite fall collections this year. From hints of the South West to big furs to snake print I am really feeling the 70s glam. Below are a few items that I hope to have in my fall wardrobe.

Newest Purchase

My new Hmong bag! It is such a beautiful piece! I knew I had to have one after seeing Abbey Lee Kershaw with hers (below). I bought mine from a local shop called Tribal Mountain, but you can find one online here.

Summer Dressing

(Anthropologie Blouse, Stella McCartney Jeans, The Bay Flats, Vintage Clutch)

I have never been one to love heat. I find it very difficult dressing for the summer because I love layering, but in super humid weather that is never the right choice. Here is a simple outfit I wore to go second hand record/book shopping yesterday with some friends. Eric and I bought a Subotnick album and a 1982 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine featuring John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It was definitely a good day!

Conservative Fashion

I came across this Daily Mail article today and just laughed my head off. The headline reads "Feeling a little Amish, Ashley? Olsen twin steps out in a very sedate ensemble". Are you kidding me? It is apparently BIG news when a celebrity dresses in a conservative manor and not in heels, a mini skirt, etc. I think Ashley looks fabulous; very reminiscent of Louis Vuitton Fall 2010. I just can't wrap my head around this title! It is insulting on so many levels not to mention that this outfit is far from traditional Amish wear.

Relaxing on a summers day

Eric and I spent our morning relaxing under the shade of a tree, reading magazines, and taking lots of photos. I am wearing Vintage cut offs, bag, and vest, Aritzia hat, AA tank, and Aldo sandals. Yesterday I went thrift shopping and found an amazing fur jacket that was originally made in Montreal. I can't wait to wear this lovely piece all the time come fall!
